Boen tops 38-car Comp Cams field at Tri-State
POCOLA, Okla. (May 5) — Polesitter Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colo., led all 35 laps Thursday at Tri-State Speedway to capture his first victory on the Arkansas-based Comp Cams Super Dirt Series, leading a top-two sweep of drivers from Western states. Boen pocketed $2,000.
R.C. Whitwell of Tucson, Ariz., finished second in the Thursday night special followed by former series champ Billy Moyer Jr. of Batesville, Ark. Wendell Wallace of Batesville and Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., rounded out the top five as the series launched a tripleheader weekend.
Notes: Ian Samuel of Trumann, Ark., received the Quarter Master Hard Luck award. After arriving late because of road detours related to regional flooding, Samuel only made six laps in his heat race before his engine expired. ... The Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger award went to Austin Rettig of Sikeston, Mo., who advanced five spots from his 14th starting position. ... The tour heads to Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, Okla., on Friday night before wrapping up Saturday in a rare Late Model event at Crawford County Speedway in Van Buren, Ark.
