Stovall rallies late for victory at 81
PARK CITY, Kan. (May 7) — Rallying from the fifth row, Jesse Stovall of Galena, Mo., led the final three laps Saturday at 81 Speedway for a victory co-sanctioned by the MARS DIRTcar Series and National Championship Racing Association DIRTcar Series. | Slideshow
Stovall earned $2,500 for the 30-lap victory while Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo., finished second in the 22-car field.
Tommy Weder Jr. of Woodward, Okla., who started in the pole position and led all but a handful of laps, settled for a third-place finish. Brad Looney of Republic, Mo., and Al Purkey of Coffeyville, Kan., each had brief stints leading midway through the race and rounded out the top five finishers.
The victory was the second of the season on the MARS circuit for Stovall, who drives a Steve Rushin-owned car.
