Moyer Jr. nips Beard on last lap at Crawford Co.
VAN BUREN, Ark. (May 7) — Former series champ Billy Moyer Jr. of Batesville, Ark., overtook race-long leader Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., on the final corner Saturday at Crawford County Speedway to capture his second straight victory on the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series.
Moyer led exiting turn four on the last of 35 laps for a $2,000 victory that came just 24 hours after his victory at Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, Okla., on a tripleheader CCSDS weekend. Kelly Boen won Thursday's event at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, Okla.
The race's three cautions all came between laps 25-27, setting up an eight-lap dash to the finish. Beard had led all the way from outside the front row, but Moyer caught him amid traffic on lap 33.
The leaders went three-wide with the lapped car of Keith Lawson at the white flag, battling side-by-side into turns one and two and down the backstretch. Beard entered turn three high while Moyer shot to the bottom, and Moyer edged ahead at the checkers to win his seventh series victory by just a few feet.
Beard settled for second while polesitter Dane Dacus of Lakeland, Tenn., was third. Gary Christian of Broken Bow, Okla., crossed the line fourth, but the teen was disqualified after a postrace altercation with Dacus. Jack Sullivan of Greenbrier, Ark., was elevated to fourth and Brandon Hunter of Alma, Ark., rounded out the top five.
