Madrid tours Canyon, grabs Total Seal victory
PEORIA, Ariz. (May 28) — Anthony Madrid of Phoenix, Ariz., rallied from his seventh starting spot Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park and grabbed his first victory of the season on the Total Seal Late Model Dirt Racing Series. Madrid overtook Terry Belcher Jr. to win the 25-lapper and earned $1,000 in the first half of a Memorial Day weekend doubleheader at the 3/8-mile oval.
Polesitter Jerry Fincher of Laveen, Ariz., was second while six-time series champion Lonnie Parker Jr. of El Mirage, Ariz., improved three spots to finish third. Fourteenth-starting Paul Banghart of Tucson, Ariz., and John Cornell of Phoenix rounded out the top five finishers.
Madrid's victory was the eighth of his series career and moves him into a tie for fifth on the all-time victories list with Mark Fowler.
