Madrid completes Total Seal sweep at Canyon
PEORIA, Ariz. (May 29) — Anthony Madrid of Phoenix, Ariz., won on the Total Seal Late Model Dirt Racing Series for the second night in a row on Sunday, sweeping Memorial Day weekend action at Canyon Speedway Park.
Madrid starting on the pole, but fellow Phoenix driver Terry Belcher Jr. led early in the 25-lapper while Madrid and reigning series champion Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., gave chase.
But Madrid overtook Belcher for the second straight night, then fought off Thornton the rest of the way for his third series victory of the season and ninth of his career.
Belcher was third followed by Phoenix drivers John Cornell and Joey Moriarty. Six-time series champion Lonnie Parker Jr. of El Mirage, Ariz., won a heat race but finished 13th in the main event.
