Cryderman outruns NLRA foes at Viking
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (May 29) — Canadian ace Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay, Ontario, led flag-to-flag Sunday at Viking Speedway, denying Pat Doar a sweep of the season-opening weekend on the Northern LateModel Racing Association. Cryderman, who started outside the front row, notched his fifth career NLRA triumph.
Reigning NLRA champion Mike Balcaen of Winnipeg, Manitoba, finished second while Doar, Saturday's winner from New Richmond, Wis., was the first U.S. finisher. Lance Matthees of Winona, Minn., and track champion Jeff Wildung of Nassua, Minn., rounded out the top five.
Steve Laursen of Cumberland, Wis., started on the pole of the 25-lapper but faded to an eighth-place finish.
