Bare collects $3,000 victory at VMS
JAMAICA, Va. (July 9) — Although it had been a while since his last Virginia Motor Speedway visit, Booper Bare of Rockbridge Baths, Va., proved he still knows how to get around the half-mile track. Bare earned $3,000 for a victory in the caution-filled Firecracker 30 on the D&D Auto Recycling Steel Block Bandits circuit. | Slideshow
“It feels really good to be back here in victory lane,“ said Bare, who worked the high side. ”This team worked extremely hard to fix the problems we were having with this car earlier today, if not for my crew I would not be standing here tonight.”
Bare started on the outside the front row and didn't take long grabbing the lead. Bare took over the top spot with a power move to the outside of Scott Adams of Chester, Va., exiting turn two on the fourth lap.
Once out front, Bare showed his old VMS championship form, enduring a series of cautions by repelling challengers on restarts for the victory.
Derick Quade of Mechanicsville, Md., finished second followed by Rick Hulson of Glen Bernie, Md. Adams and Andy Fries of Mercersburg, Pa., rounded out the top five. Fast qualifier Kyle Lear of Severna Park, Md., ran second much of the way but was disqualified for a postrace incident.
