Madrid gets series-leading fourth at Canyon
PEORIA, Ariz. (July 16) — Anthony Madrid of Phoenix, Ariz., won his series-leading fourth victory Saturday at Canyon Speedway, earning $1,000 on the Total Seal Late Model Dirt Racing Series. The sixth-starting Madrid has won four of six series events at the 3/8-mile oval in his Jeff Manka-owned Rocket Chassis.
Madrid battled much of the race with fellow Phoenix driver Terry Belcher Jr., who slipped up just enough to allow Madrid to take command in the race's late stages. Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., made it a three-way battle up front before dropping out with mechanical problems.
Belcher, who started outside the front row, settled for second while Paul Banghart of Tucson, Ariz., was third. Bud Grossenbacher and 15th-starting John Cornell rounded out the top five. Polesitter Brad Williams of Tucson slipped back to eighth.
