Gill gets first victory on Ontario circuit
BRIGHTON, Ontario (July 23) — Lee Gill of Lafargeville, N.Y., captured the season opener on the Ontario Dirt Late Model circuit Saturday with a $3,000 victory at Brighton Speedway.
Gill took the checkers ahead of polesitter Chris Ross of Wallaceburg, Ontario, while Greg Oakes of Franklinville, N.Y., improved six positions to finish third.
Outside front-row starter Greg Belyea of Frankford, Ontario, was fourth and 12th-starting Jeff Dayman of Crystal Beach, Ontario, rounded out the top five finishers in the 26-car field. The race was slowed by a record 18 caution flags in 30 laps.
