Dominating Daly gets I-5 Tour victory at Medford
MEDFORD, Ore. (July 30) — Clay Daly kept of California's stranglehold on the Oregon-based Northwest I-5 DIRTcar Late Model Series on Saturday with a victory at Southern Oregon Speedway. Daly, of Watsonville, earned $2,000 in topping the 10-car field in a dominating performance.
Daly outqualified the field by more than half-second, won his heat race, won the dash and then rallied from his eighth starting spot in the main event to take command of the feature after 10 circuits.
Anthony Restad of Santa Rosa, Calif., was second in the 25-lap feature followed by hometown driver Jeremy Richey. Rick Shafer of Vacaville, Calif., and early leader Trent Elliott of Redmond, Ore., rounded out the top five.
Daly's victory came in the third I-5 Tour event of the season. Mike Johnson of Lompoc, Calif., who didn't compete at Southern Oregon, swept the first two events of the Fourth of July weekend at Willamette and Cottage Grove Speedways.
