R.J. Conley tops Carrier in MDRL at Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (July 30) – Outside front-row starter R.J. Conley of Wheelersburg, Ohio, scored a $3,000 STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League victory Saturday night at Portsmouth Raceway Park when the first-year tour made its first visit to the 3/8-mile racetrack in southern Ohio. Conley led all 40 laps in fighting off several challenges.
Sixth-starting Eddie Carrier Jr. of Slat Rock, W.Va., was second in the event that was briefly delayed by rain during time trials. Josh McGuire of Grayson Ky., advanced from his ninth starting position to finish third with 12th-starting Rod Conley of Wheelersburg, W.Va., fourth. Steve Casebolt of New Richmond, Ind., started 15th and crossed the finish line backwards in the fifth position.
A big weekend awaits the series Aug. 5-6 with a pair of $5,000-to-win events slated for Southern Ohio Speedway in Wheelersburg and Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, Ky.
