WILLISTON, N.D. (Aug. 15) — Series points leader Ricky Weiss of Winnipeg, Manitoba, raced to his second straight Northern LateModel Racing Association victory Monday at Williston Basin Speedway after a hard-fought battle early with John Kaanta and Brad Seng. Weiss earned $1,250 for the victory on NLRA's eight-race Western Tour.

Seng, of Grand Forks, N.D., and Kaanta, of Elk Mound, Wis., ran door-to-door numerous laps just behind Weiss while while Zach Johnson of Kensington, Minn., rallied in the late stages to nab the second spot.

Seng was third followed by Kaanta and reigning NLRA champion Mike Balcaen of Winnipeg.

The 30-lapper was slowed by seven caution flags and more than half the 24-car field sustained some type of damage.

Notes: Weiss drives a Victory Circle Chassis with sponsorship from Derrick's Sandblasting, Spectrum Coatings and Allied Roofing. ... The reshaped track has higher banking and allowed for some racy action. ... With 30 entries, the track broke its Late Model car count record of 29 set in 2007. ... Event sponsor MonDak Portables added $1,000 to the purse. It was determined that after the feature field was set, a random drawing of all 24 starters would splits drivers into six teams of four apiece. The combined finishing positions of each team was totaled and the lowest combined score would pay the four drivers $250 apiece. Zach Johnson, Corey Seckerson, Paul Mueller and Hank Berry were the winners.
