Smith grabs NALMS victory at Farmer City
FARMER CITY, Ill. (Aug. 19) — Eric Smith of Bloomington, Ill., notched his first Northern Allstars Late Model Series victory since 2004 on Friday at Farmer City Raceway, earning $2,000 for the victory.
The fifth-starting Smith worked the inside groove and made a backstretch pass on the higher running Kevin Weaver of Gibson City, Ill., pulling away for the victory at the quarter-mile oval.
Ninth-starting Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., charged into second, leaving Weaver to settle for the third spot. Polesitter and early leader Mike Spatola of Manhattan, Ill., was fourth and sixth-starting Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., rounded out the top five. Heat winner Donny Walden of Towanda, Ill., started outside the front row and ended up ninth.
