Gorby gets first MDLMS victory at Salina
SALINA, Kan. – Gary Gorby of Caney, Kan., rallied from the tail of the field in Friday night’s Midwest Dirt Late Model Series event at Salina Speedway and picked up his first series victory as the 3/8-mile oval hosted Late Models for the first time in five years.
Gorby used a high-side move to overtake Delbert Smith of Wichita, Kan., for the lead late in the event on his way to earning $1,050. Smith followed Gorby to the finish in the runner-up position with Earl Kinderknecht of Salina, third. Dave Conkwright of Manhattan, Kan., was fourth with Kelly Dunn, also of Salina, rounding out the top five finishers.
Jimmy Segraves of Valley Center, Kan., led the early portions of the race after starting from the pole, but let Smith slip by for the lead. Segraves later spun while running second. He ended up 16th.
Preliminary action for the event was ran the previous week before rain postponed the feature race. The tour heads to Caney (Kan.) Valley Speedway Sept. 10 for the season finale.
