Parton grabs victory at Cleveland County
LAWNDALE, N.C. (May 25) — Local standout Furman Parton of Union Mills, N.C., became the sixth winner in six Fastrak City Chevrolet Tour races on Friday at Cleveland County Speedway. He earned $2,000 in the opener of Memorial Day weekend’s Triple Crown Series.
Jordan Dill of Landrum, S.C., was second followed by Lee Cooper of Woodruff, S.C. Steve Hendren of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Owen Osteen of Woodruff, S.C., rounded out the top five.
It was a tough night for series frontrunners David Smith of Inman, S.C., and Brandon Umberger of Rural Retreat, Va. Smith, who entered the event with a one-point lead on Umberger, dropped out on the 15th of 40 laps with engine problems, while Umberger ended his night against the turn-four wall on lap 24.
Umberger moved into the points lead by a single marker over Smith while Cooper is another point back in third.
The Fastrak Triple Crown continued at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va., on Saturday and Princeton (W.Va.) Speedway on Sunday.
