Weiss nabs NLRA victory at Jamestown
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (June 9) — Reigning series champion Ricky Weiss of Winnipeg, Manitoba, earned $1,200 on Saturday at Jamestown Speedway for his first victory of the season on the Northern LateModel Racing Association. | Sildeshow
Weiss notched his eighth career NLRA victory in taking the checkers ahead of Grand Forks, N.D., drivers Brad Seng and Dustin Strand. Bill Mooney of Garson, Manitoba, was fourth and Hank Berry of Sidney, Mont., rounded out the top five finishers. Polesitter Steven Pfieffer of Minot, N.D., was sixth followed by 13th-starting Mike Balcaen of Winnipeg.
Notes: Weiss drives a Victory Circle Chassis sponsored by Derrick’s Sandblasting, Spectrum Coatings and Allied Roofing. ... He has three victories overall in 2012. ... Jamestown drew 135 race cars in all. ... Dustin Strand, a Late Model rookie who finished third in the feature, won the night’s modified race after starting 17th. ... Drivers carried helmets through the stands to collect donations for the local Kulsrud family, whose three sons have all been diagnosed with a rare genetic disease. Nearly $2,200 was raised and the pot grew when some drivers donated their winnings and the winner of the 50-50 pot added $300 as well. ... Jamestown is off next weekend and returns to action June 23. ... NLRA competitors head to Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D., on June 20 for Tony Stewart Night and a season-richest $4,000-to-win purse.
