Roberts claims first 2012 victory at 441
DUBLIN, Ga. (June 16) — Series points leader Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., returned to form in Saturday night’s Ultimate Super Late Model Series event at 441 Speedway, claiming a $4,000 victory in the second-year tour’s inaugural visit to the 3/8-mile oval. | Slideshow
Roberts, whose only previous Ultimate Series victory came Sept. 17 at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C., crossed the finish line first, leading a top five made up of all home-state drivers.
Chesley Dixon of Swainsboro scored the runner-up finish ahead of third-place finisher Jordy Nipper of Gray. Phil Pittman of Vidalia finished fourth with Brandon Overton of Evans rounding out the top five.
Ivedent Lloyd Jr. of Ocala, Fla., was involved in a hard wreck when his throttle hung and sent him hard into the wall. Lloyd, whose race car was left with heavy right-side damage, suffered only a minor foot injury in the accident.
Notes: Roberts drives a Capital Race Car powered by a Randy Clary Race Engine with sponsorship from Cushman Paint and Body, Starrette Trucking, M&S Concrete, Simpson, Schaeffer Oil, GW Performance and VP Race Fuels.. … Roberts lowered the track record in qualifying with his lap of 13.620 seconds. … Roberts is just the fifth driver with multiple victories on the regional tour, joining Chris Madden (6), Jonathan Davenport (4), Vic Hill (3) and Steve Shaver (2). … Hill of Moshiem, Tenn., had won the tour’s three previous events, but did not enter Saturday’s race. … The Ultimate Series returns to action with a $4,000-to-win event June 30 at 311 Motor Speedway in Madison, N.C.
