Caswell gets Go Nuclear victory at Mohawk
HOGANSBURG, N.Y. (July 6) — Dale Caswell of Central Square, N.Y., fought off challenges at Mohawk International Raceway for a victory Friday on the Go Nuclear Late Model Challenge Series. Caswell earned $1,000 for his first victory on the Crate Late Model circuit.
Tim Sears Jr. and Caswell started on the front row, battling for the early lead while Phil Potts, Greg Belyea and Sean Beardsley gave chase. A red flag appeared on the sixth lap when Rob Mason’s car flipped in turn two; he wasn’t injured.
Caswell stayed in control on the restart, and after a lap-10 caution for Mat Vinderlinden’s spin, Sears took a stab at the lead in turn one. But Caswell’s high-side momentum kept him out front before Kyle Sopaz spun in turn three for another slowdown.
Caswell pulled away on the restart while Sears and Belyea dueld for second, swapping the spot several times. Belyea finally got the position and closed on Caswell in traffic, but he settled for the second spot with Sears, Potts and A.J. Kingsley rounding out the top five in the 30-lapper.
