Marlar leads all 53 laps for Screven victory
SYLVANIA, Ga. (July 21) — Mike Marlar dominated Saturday’s Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series stop at Screven Motor Speedway, leading all 53 laps for a $5,300 victory that tightened the points standings on the 10-race series.
Marlar, winning his second series race of the week, outran ninth-starting Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., and drew within two points of three-time series champion and points leader Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., who rallied from 10th to finish third.
Outside front-row starter Johnny Pursley of Clover, S.C., and 13th-starting Kennie Compton Jr. of Bland, Va., rounded out the top five finishers in a race slowed by six cautions.
Next up for the series is a $5,300-to-win event Sunday at Rome (Ga.) International Speedway.
