Spangler wins Wood Tic after penalty for Roberts
MERRITT, Mich. (July 21) — Eric Spangler of Lake City, Mich., crossed the finish line second in Saturday night’s Wood Tic 100 Late Model feature at Merritt Raceway, but was elevated to first when apparent race winner Curtis Roberts of Coleman, was black-flagged at the completion of the cool-down lap for the UMP-sanctioned event. | Slideshow
Roberts’ disqualification came after he used contact to take the lead from Spangler exiting the final corner. The contact sent Spangler up the track and caused him to brush the wall as he crossed the finish line just behind Roberts.
The fourth-starting Spangler earned $4,000 in topping Rich Neiser of Fruitport, at the quarter-mile oval. Dave Hartman of Howard City, was third with Dona Marcoullier of Houghton Lake, advancing from his 13th starting spot to top his father Don for fourth at the finish.
