Tungate-Rattliff tangle lifts Watson at LCS

DirtonDirt.com correspondentBURNSIDE, Ky. (July 28) — A tangle among frontrunners Saturday at Lake Cumberland Speedway opened the door for Jeff Watson of Campbellsville, Ky., and he stepped through to grab a $2,000 victory in Super Late Model action.
Tim Tungate led from the drop of the green in the 30-lapper with Justin Rattliff, Watson, Jason Barrett and Tommy Gregory giving chase.
Tungate pulled out to a comfortable lead, lapping all but four competitors while Rattliff continued in second. But business picked up in the waning laps as Rattliff began to close in on Tungate with the pair side-by-side entering turn one after receiving the white flag.
The lead duo made contact exiting turn two with Rattliff climbing the wall on the backchute and Tungate ending up spun in the wrong direction to draw the caution flag, ending night night for both drivers.
The turn of events handed the lead to Watson, who pulled away from Barrett on the restart for the victory in a MasterSbilt Race Car powered by a Frank Ofria Race Engine and sponsored by Brad Burton Dairy Farms, Shofner Enterprises, J&T Distributing and Watson Plumbing.
