Lukon tops Steel Block Bandits at PPMS
IMPERIAL, Pa. (July 29) — Track regular Kyle Lukon of Burgettstown, Pa., took the lead from Rick Singleton of Huntingdon, Pa., on the eighth lap Sunday at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway and cruised to his first victory on the Steel Block Bandits tour.
Four-race winner Joey Leavell of Waynesboro, Va., finished second followed by Glen Elliott, Mark Moats Jr. and Singleton. Andy Fries of Mercersburg, Pa., who entered the race leading series points, was ninth in a race postponed a day by rain.
Notes: The series faced off against the track’s regular Crate Late Model division. ... Kyle Armstrong, who entered the race second in series points, won a heat race, but mechanical problems in the starting grid kept him from starting the feature. ... Keith Barbara of South Park, Pa., won double features in the track’s DIRTcar-sanctioned division for Super Late Models. ... Steel Block Bandits competitors take a break until a Sept. 1 event at Susquehanna Speedway Park in Newberrytown, Pa.
