Elder Moyer wins father-son battle at I-55
PEVELY, Mo. (Aug. 25) — Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., topped a lead-swapping battle with polesitter Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., Saturday night at Federated Raceway at I-55 on his way to a $5,000 victory co-sanctioned by the MARS DIRTcar Series and UMP.
Moyer, who earned the 16th MARS victory of his career, outdueled his son Billy Moyer Jr., during the closing laps of the 50-lap race to end a more than month-long winless streak. Moyer Jr. settled for second with Shirley third followed by Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., and Randy Korte of Highland, Ill. | Slideshow
Notes: The winning Moyer drives a Clements-powered Victory Circle Chassis with sponsorship from Henderson Motorsports, L&D Trucking, Car City, Cooley Transport and Watter’s Autoland. … The victory was Moyer’s 14th of the season but first since July 13. … MARS points leader Jesse Stovall of Galena, Mo., finished seventh. … Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo., got into the wall during his heat race, but recovered to finish 10th after using a provisional to start the main event. … The race was the second leg of a weekend doubleheader for MARS and UMP. Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., won Friday’s race at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway. Feger was ninth Saturday night. … The MARS Series returns to action Sept. 2 with a $4,000-to-win event at Monett (Mo.) Speedway.
