Last-lap pass lifts Miller at Duck River
By Connie Putnam
DirtonDirt.com correspondentWHEEL, Tenn. (Sept. 8) — Sixth-starting Daniel Miller of Lynchburg, Tenn., regained the lead from polesitter Todd Morrow of East Ridge, Tenn., on the final lap Saturday for a $3,000 victory at Duck River Speedway.
Morrow settled for second in the unsanctioned event while ninth-starting Brad Skinner of Spring Hill, Tenn., Tony Morris of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and front-row starter Chad Winkles of Falkville, Ala., rounded out the top five. David Seibers of Petersburg, Tenn., who started 18th, raced his way into the lead late in the race but spun in turn one and retired with three laps remaining. | Slideshow
Morrow took the lead at the outset after a pair of called-back starts for spins by Mark Fields and Dylan Ames. Winkles and Josh Putnam chased the leader with Putnam moved into the second spot on the seventh lap.
Morrow and Putnam ran 1-2 for 20 more laps until Derrick White slowed for the third yellow.
When the race got rolling again, Tim Busha and Putnam made contact in turn one, and a spinning Putnam collected Winkles and Miller. Busha retired to the pits but Putnam was charged with the caution and elected to head pitside.
Morrow lost the top spot to Seibers on the 30th lap, and Miller dropped Morrow to third a few laps later. On lap 37, Miller was challenging Seibers when the leader spun, ending his night.
The Miller-Morrow battle was on for the final three laps with Morrow regaining the lead from Miller on lap 39. But on the next and final circuit, Miller went back ahead exiting turn four for the victory.
