Whitener wins finale, steals UDLMCS title
LAKE CITY, Fla. (Nov. 24) — Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., overtook Keith Nosbisch of Valrico, Fla., in the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series points chase Saturday with a victory in the season finale at North Florida Speedway.
Whitener led all 40 laps of the Harvey Jones Memorial to pocket $3,000 and overcome a 70-point deficit in the points chase to earn his second UDLMCS championship. His first came in 2010.
Nosbisch ran just outside the top five most of the race — not good enough to keep a winning Whitener from winning the title — but had a flat right rear tire late in the race and finished 15th.
Ivedent Lloyd Jr. of Ocala, Fla., finished second with Richard Ferry of Jacksonville, Fla., third on a chilly night at Lake City. Kyle Van Sickle and Kyle Bridges rounded out the top five. Christian Augspurger of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., who finished third in points behind Whitener and Nosbisch, was 10th after recovering from a lap-15 spin.
