Whitener tops Augspurger in UDLMCS opener
CLEWISTON, Fla. (Feb. 23) — Defending United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series champion Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., kicked off the tour’s 2013 season much like he spent 2012, with a $2,200 victory in Saturday’s season-opening Ponce de Leon Classic at Hendry County Motorsports Park.
The second-starting Whitner, who won four of the tour’s final six races on his way to claiming his second series title last season, claimed the 50-lap victory ahead of polesitter Christian Augspurger of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Rodger Crouse of Plant City, Fla., and Win Ingersoll of Fort Pierce, Fla., finished third and fourth respectively in a race that drew just five entries. Third-starting Adam Bedenbaugh of Lake City, Fla., took the lead midway through the race but retired with engine troubles.
UDLMCS @ Hendry County: (1) Mark Whitener, (2) Christian Augspurger, (3) Rodger Crouse, (4) Win Ingersol, (5) Adam Bedenbaugh. Fast qualifier: Augspurger.
