Covert grabs fifth victory at Williams Grove
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (April 5) — Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., led all 25 laps Friday at Williams Grove Speedway for an unsanctioned Super Late Model victory, giving him a personal two-race win streak. Covert, who won on the Three State Flyers circuit last weekend in Hagerstown, Md., notched his fifth career victory at Williams Grove. | Slideshow | Weekly results
Covert started outside the front row and got the jump on pole-starting Jerry Bard. Cautions on laps five, six, nine and 15 regrouped the field, but no one was able to challenge Covert’s Barry Klinedinst-owned No. 43a.
During the last half of the race, 10th-starting Gene Knaub and 11th-starting Dan Stone flexed some muscle, breaking into the top five but unable to track down Covert. Knaub, who took second with nine laps remaining, was the runner-up followed by Bard, Stone and Tyler Hershey, who advanced nine positions.
Danny Dietrich earned $4,300 for capturing the night’s 25-lap sprint car feature.
