Baker christens Timberline with CCSDS victory
CORLEY, Texas (May 3) — Robert Baker of Bryant, Ark., christened the new Timberline Speedway on Friday with a flag-to-flag victory in the 3/8-mile oval’s first Dirt Late Model event. Bryant earned $2,000 in the caution-free 35-lap feature for his second career victory on the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series. | Slideshow
The pole-starting Baker took the checkers ahead of Ross Camponovo of Clarksdale, Miss., while Chandler Petty of Beebe, Ark., finished third. Jeff Chanler of Minden, La., and Jon Kirby of Russellville, Ark., rounded out the top five at the Billy White-owned track that opened last month.
Notes: Baker’s MasterSBilt Race Car has a Kuntz & Co. powerplant with sponsorship from McNew Fabrication. ... His previous Comp Cams victory came April 14, 2012, at Diamond Park Speedway in Nashville, Ark. ... Kyle Beard earn the $100 Larry Shaw Hard Charger bonus for his 22nd-to-eighth run; Beard had to run a backup car in the feature because of mechanical problems in his heat race. ... Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Hall of Famer Billy Moyer, Keith Craft, Patrick Daniel, Trey Beene, Brad Looney, Jack Sullivan, Tyler Erb and Eric Turner. ... The series heads to ArkLaTex Speedway in Vivian, La., on Saturday.
