Borrowed car lifts Beuseling to special victory
By Anthony Sandoval
Quad City SpeedwayEAST MOLINE, Ill. (May 12) — Nate Beuseling thought Sunday night was lost after the transmission in his No. 46 machine broke in the hot laps at Quad City Speedway.
In an ultimate show of sportsmanship, Roberts Motorsports and driver Ray Guss Jr. elected to let Beuseling get behind the wheel of the No. 58 that formerly was driven by the late Hershel Roberts in the weekly IMCA-sanctioned feature.
"These guys are gracious enough to not be worried about points," Beuseling said. "I got out of the car and they said, 'All right, you're getting in this one.' It's a dream to drive that car because of Hershel.”
With his No. 46 taped over the traditional No. 58 of the Roberts team, Beuseling went on to win the 25-lap feature. Mike Zemo Jr., who led most of the race, surrendered a huge lead after cutting down a tire.
"As much as I love Ray and the team, that was absolutely awesome," Beuseling said. "To be able to jump in that car and do that.”
Todd Malmstrom finished second followed by Zemo, Travis Denning and Ryan Claeys.
