Points leader bags Deery victory at Farley
FARLEY, Iowa (May 21) — The fourth time was a charm Tuesday night for Brian Harris of Davenport, Iowa. After finishing third in each of the first three Deery Brothers Summer Series events of the season, Harris led the last half of a 50-lap feature for IMCA Late Models at Farley Speedway that ran green to checkered.
The victory, the career sixth for Harris, paid $3,000 to the tour point leader. Justin Kay of Wheatland, Iowa, and Nick Marolf of Moscow, Iowa, swapped the lead throughout the first half of the race and ran side-by-side for much of the late going before Kay got the edge for second.
Hard charger Jeff Aikey of Waterloo, Iowa, moved up 11 positions from his spot on the original grid for fourth. Joel Callahan of Dubuque, Iowa, completed the top five.
Curt Martin drew the pole and led the opening circuit before giving way to the third-starting Marolf. Kay began his initial stint at the point on lap nine, was briefly out of first on lap 14, then kept a tenuous lead until lap 24.
Harris entered the fray at that point, taking over up front on the 25th circuit. He’d run three wide with Kay and Marolf and use multiple lines to negotiate lapped traffic before pulling out to a five-length margin of victory.
