Mark Pettyjohn wins again at Winchester
WINCHESTER, Va. (May 25) — Mark Pettyjohn of Milton, Del., led all 35 laps Saturday night at Winchester Speedway en route to his second Three State Flyers victory of the season. Pettyjohn earned $3,000 as the regional tour held the second round of its four-race weekend.
Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, Md., started and finished second, while three-time series champion Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., advanced from the 11th starting spot to finish third. Series stalwarts Jeremy Miller of Gettysburg, Pa. and D.J. Myers Greencastle, Pa. rounded out the race’s top-five finishers.
Notes: Pettyjohn drives a Swartz Race Car with sponsorship from Hitchens Bros. Trucking and Crosswinds Motel. ... Pettyjohn’s previous Three State Flyer victory also came at Winchester during the tour’s season opener on March 29. ... Kenny Pettyjohn topped Dan Stone on Friday at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway to earn his first series victory; Pettyjohn finished seventh on Saturday while Stone broke and brought out the final caution. ... The race was slowed by four cautions. Trever Feathers and Jamie Lathroum got together battling for fifth on the 26th lap; Lathroum brought out a caution, retaliated against Feathers under yellow and eliminated both drivers. ... Three State Flyers competitors move to Hesston (Pa.) Speedway on Sunday and Bedford (Pa.) Speedway on Monday.
