Davenport nabs second Crate Speedweek victory
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (June 23) — Tait Davenport of Paducah, Ky., claimed round three of the six-race UMP Crate Late Model Speedweek on Sunday night at Clarksville Speedway after winning one of the most intense battles during the inaugural minitour.
Davenport took the lead from the outset, then fought off challenges from fellow heat-race winner Clayton Miller of Elkton, Ky., and then fellow Paducah driver Jeff Walston in the final laps. Davenport held on for his second Speedweek win after a green-white-checkered finish in the 12-lap feature.
Miller, who leads Walston by five points in the the minitour standings, settled for third followed by Levi Ashby and Doug Smith. Fast qualifier Credence Mott was 10th.
Chris Shelton of Paducah, Ky., won the night’s Super Late Model feature.
The fourth Speedweek leg returns to Clarksville June 26 on the undercard of the UMP DIRTcar Summernationals event at the quarter-mile oval.
