Walston tops Miller for Western Kentucky win
NEBO, Ky. (June 28) — Jeff Walston of Paducah, Ky. on Friday went to the wall — literally — to the inside and back again to take the lead from his closest pursuer in the UMP Crate Speedweek.
Walston snagged the lead from Clayton Miller of Elkton, Ky., at Western Kentucky Speedway for his third Speedweek victory in eight days.
A slim six-car field dodged scattered rain to run a quick 15-lap feature program that saw Miller battle up front with Walston in the second-to-last Speedweek event. The top two drivers in minitour points went to nose-to-tail and door-to-door before Walston used a slide job to gain the lead and pull away from Miller. Jacob Minon was third followed by Gavin Schmidt and Evan Taylor.
The six-race UMP Crate Speedweek wraps up Saturday with a third visit to Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway.
UMP Crate Speedweek @ Western Kentucky: (1) Jeff Walston, (2) Clayton Miller, (3) Jacob Minon, (4) Gavin Schmidt, (5) Evan Taylor, (6) Doug Smith. Heat winner (among six cars): Miller.
