Briggs breaks ULMS drought at Sharon
HARTFORD, Ohio (July 20) — Two-time series champion Boom Briggs of Bear Lake, Pa., notched his first series victory since the 2010 tour finale Saturday at Sharon Speedway, earning $3,000 on the NDRL's ULMS Racing Series at Sharon Speedway.
Briggs turned back pressure from Brent Rhebergen of Clymer, N.Y., over the second half of the 30-lapper to record his sixth career ULMS victory. Rhebergen pulled alongside at one point but Briggs received relief when the yellow flag flew.
Keith Barbara of South Park, Pa., took second from Rhebergen on the white-flag lap while fast qualifier Russ King of Bristolville, Ohio, and Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., rounded out the top five.
Series points leader Mike Knight, who ran as high as third, retired in the closing laps in a feature slowed by a trio of cautions that took just under 20 minutes to complete.
