Marlar tops Weaver for first Ultimate Series win
CHATSWORTH, Ga. (Aug. 3) — Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., overtook polesitter Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., with four laps remaining in Saturday’s 40-lap main event at North Georgia Speedway and held on for his second career Ultimate Super Late Model Series victory. | Slideshow
Third-starting Marlar trailed Weaver most of the way before slipping by as the leaders raced through heavy lapped traffic late in the race. He earned $4,000 for his second overall victory of the season, while Weaver was denied his first Ultimate Series win in settling for the runner-up finish.
Third-place finisher Chris Ferguson of Mount Holley, N.C, scored his second top-five finish of the weekend after finishing fifth in the first leg of the tour’s Peach State doubleheader Friday night at Lavonia (Ga.) Speedway.
Ivedent Lloyd Jr. of Ocala, Fla., was fourth at the checkers while series points leader and Friday night’s winner Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., rounded out the race’s top five finishers.
