31st annual Sunoco Race Fuels North-South 100

Dates: Aug. 8-10 (practice on Thursday; time trials and dash on Friday; heat races, consolations and 100-lap main event on Saturday).

Track: Florence Speedway, Union, Ky. (high-banked half-mile oval)

Purse: $50,000-to-win, $2,500-to-start.

Sanction: Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series

Tickets: Two-day tickets $45 ($7 for children 6-11); pit passes $60; see track website for more ticket details.

Last year’s winner: Don O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind., wedged past Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., with 16 laps remaining, making contact while taking command for his first North-South 100 victory.

Notes: Lucas Oil is the presenting sponsor. ... Friday's Red Buck Cigars-sponsored dash will be among the top three qualifiers from each qualifying group paying $500-to-win. ... Jimmy Owens (2007, ’10, ’11) will try to become the race’s first four-time winner. ... The only other three-time winner: the late Jack Boggs (’86, ’92, ’94). ... Six other drivers have won the event twice. ... The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Induction is scheduled for Saturday. This year’s class: Eddie Carrier Sr., Darrell Dake, Bill Frye, John Gill and Willy Kraft, as well as contributors Bret Emrick, Joe Garrison and Jack Starrette. Don O’Neal will receive the Sportsman Award. ... A driver autograph session is scheduled for Saturday. ...
