KERENS, W.Va. (Aug. 23) — Cody Hardesty of Oakland, Md., claimed Friday’s 25th annual R.H. Armstrong Memorial presented by J.C. Distributing Elkins Raceway, earning $4,000 for his second straight victory in the 3/8-mile oval’s Jenkins Ford Super Late Model division. | Slideshow
Hardesty led the 40-lap race flag to flag in his No. 53 machine sponsored by Runnerup Properties and New England Truss and Joist, earning his biggest career victory ahead of Dusty Hamrick of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Shane Hitt of Buckhannon, W.Va., Mike Benedum of Bristol, W.Va., and Butch McGill of West Union, W.Va., rounded out the top five.
Starting from the pole, Hardesty jumped to the point at the drop of the green with Hamrick giving chase ahead of Hitt, Billy Holbert and Charlie George.
Cautions slowed the action on laps two, 12, 16 and 17, but Hardesty used what he found in winning the previous week to fend off Hamrick on each restart each of his challenges.
