HAMMETT, Pa. (Sept. 6) — Dan Stone of Thompson, Pa., opened the NDRL's ULMS Racing Series doubleheader weekend at Eriez Speedway on Friday with a $3,000 victory. Tim Fuller of Watertown, N.Y., was third in the 30-lap weekend opener followed by Bump Hedman of Sugar Grove, Pa., and Andy Boozel of Clymer, N.Y.
Stone started outside the front row and took the lead at the outset with Hedman grabbing second ahead of the polesitter Knight.
After just seven laps, Stone was already lapping slower cars while Hedman, Knight and Fuller battled for the second spot. Knight secured second before the halfway point and began tracking down Stone in traffic.
With 10 laps remaining, Stone held a six-length lead, then turned it up a notch and began pulling away. Knight scraped the backstretch wall on the 26th lap but managed to hold the second spot while Stone concluded his fifth career ULMS victory in the caution-free event.
ULMS competitors battle for a $5,000 winner’s purse in Saturday’s action. The conclusion of a Fastrak Northeast event for Crate Late Models and a $1,000-to-win Limited Late Model program is also on the card.
