Caswell edges Miller on final lap for Go Nuclear victory
HOGANSBURG, N.Y. (Sept. 14) — Leading only the final 100 feet of the race, reigning series champion Dale Caswell of Central Square, N.Y., won Saturday at Mohawk International Raceway on the Go Nuclear Late Model Challenge Series. Caswell earned $2,000 in the Richard Tenace Memorial for Crate Late Models.
Rick Miller of Fulton, N.Y., held up by a lapped car exiting turn four on the final lap, settled for second with Jordan Peters, Dave McDonald and Billy Eisele rounding out the top five in the 40-lapper.
McDonald and Peters started on the front row with Peters taking command to lead McDonald, Caswell, Eisele and Miller before a lap-10 caution for spins by Kyle Sopaz and A.J. Kingsley in turn two. Peters resumed his led for six laps before Greg Belyea and Damien Bidwell spun in turn four to draw the final yellow.
On the restart, Miller took the lead and Caswell joined him for a two-car breakaway as they pulled nearly seven seconds ahead of the field in battling side-by-side. Miller maintained control until the final lap when Caswell made his winning move.
