ALMS victory completes Pierce's Tri-City sweep
PONTOON BEACH, Ill. (Sept. 27) — He had to wait a week, but Bobby Pierce finally completed a sweep of the Super Late Model portion of Tri-City Speedway’s Modified Mania weekend with a Sunoco American Late Model Series victory in Friday’s makeup event that was rescheduled from a Sept. 20 rainout.
The $2,000 victory, the fourth of Pierce’s career on the ALMS tour, came after Pierce claimed the first two events of the 3/8-mile oval’s late-season tripleheader on Sept. 19 and Sept. 21.
Tim Manville of St. Jacob, Ill., was second at the finish with Brian Diveley of Springfield, Ill., third. Kevin Weaver of Gibson City, Ill., and Randy Korte of Highland, Ill., rounding out the race’s top five finishers.
Notes: Pierce’s Pierce Race Car has a Pro Power Racing engine and sponsorship from Champion Spark Plugs, Murphy Trucking, Petersen Aluminum, American Metal Supply Co. and Keyser Mfg. ... Pierce has claimed all four of his ALMS victories this season. His previous triumphs came May 19 at Vermillion County Speedway in Danville, Ill., Aug. 11 at Quincy (Ill.) Raceway and Sept. 21 at Tri City. ... The Sept. 19 portion of the event was a UMP DIRTcar-sanctioned event only. ... ALMS competitors move to Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., on Saturday for another $2,000-to-win event before wrapping up the season Oct. 5 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
