Boone at Boone: McLaughlin gets Deery Bros. victory
BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 3) — The man with the fitting name was on his game.
Racing at Boone Speedway, Boone McLaughlin of Mediapolis, Iowa, won the Deery Brothers Summer Series event on the opening night of the IMCA Supernationals.
McLaughlin pocketed $2,000 for his fourth career series victory as he fought off challenges from Terry Neal of Ely, Iowa, for his second victory of the season.
Neal settled for second while Hershel Roberts of East Moline, Ill., finished third. Iowans Todd Cooney of Des Moines and Jon Merfeld of Peosta rounded out the top five in the second-to-last series event of the season.
Darrel DeFrance made up a little ground on points leader Jeremy Grady, but neither driver had a good night. They both took provisional starting spots to make the feature and DeFrance ended up 10th, one spot better than Grady.
The title will be on the line Sept. 14-15 at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, for the $10,000-to-win Pepsi USA Nationals. | Slideshow
