McCool wins fourth as Wall returns to track

MERIDIAN, Miss. (June 21) — Fourth-starting Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., grabbed the lead from David Breazeale with 19 laps remaining at Whynot Motorsports Park and raced to his fourth Mississippi State Championship Challenge victory of the season. McCool earned $2,500 in outrunning Breazeale, the Four Corners, Miss., driver who stayed with the winner the rest of the way. Jason Cliburn of Star, Miss., was third followed by series points leader David Ashley of Zachary, La., and hometown driver Chad Thrash. Polesitter Chris McElhenney finished ninth. | Slideshow
Notes: The event marked the return of former series champion Chris Wall, who suffered serious neck injuries in a May 9 accident at North Alabama Speedway. Wall started fourth and battled up front early before mechanical problems forced him out on the 12th lap. ... Chris McElhenney's 12.570-second fast time lowered the track record. ... The track drew more than 100 race cars overall, including 36 Late Models. ... The track unveiled a new scoreboard sponsored by Coca-Cola of Meridian. ... David Ashley leads the series with 1,010 points over David Breazeale (905), Chris Wall (885) and Chad Thrash (870). ...
