Madden holds off Chupp for victory at Cherokee
From series reports
GAFFNEY, S.C. (July 3) — Leading all 40 laps at Cherokee Speedway, Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., jumped into the lead from outside the front row and fought off a late challenge from Randle Chupp of Troutman, N.C., to win the O'Reilly Southern All Star East-sanctioned Independence Shootout. Chupp pulled even with Madden exiting turn two on the final lap, but Madden's high-side momentum carried him to a $4,000 victory. Jeff Smith of Dallas, N.C., finished third followed by Mike Duvall of Cowpens, S.C., and Monk Gulledge of Batesburg, S.C., who cut into Casey Roberts's series points lead.
