Berck tops Friesen for second straight NCRA victory
By David Smith Jr.
O'Reilly NCRAENID, Okla. (July 5) — Third-starting Kyle Berck of Marquette, Neb., overtook race-long leader Jason Friesen of Sutton, Neb., at the race's midpoint and cruised at Enid Speedway Park for his second consecutive O'Reilly National Championship Racing Association victory. "The track rubbered up and we knew it would do that coming in, but it really wasn't that hard on the tires." the 38-year-old Berck said in victory lane. "My sister (long-time crew member Belinda Strobel) helped work on the tires and setup and it just drove perfect all night."
Friesen, back in Late Models after sticking with modifieds for several years, finished second ahead of sixth-starting Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colo. Polesitter Jeff Taylor of Cave City, Ark., making a rare NCRA start, was fourth and Bryant Goldsmith of Corning, Iowa, rounded out the top five.
Notes: Berck drove a Lazer Chassis sponsored by Dorothy Lynch Homestyle Dressings and Strobel Construction. ... Jeff Taylor piloted a car for area car owner Bud Longpines. ... Next up for O'Reilly NCRA car is a July 18-19 stop at Mid-Nebraska Speedway in Doniphan, Neb.
