Rain postpones UMP's Spoon River stop until Monday
BANNER, Ill. (July 7) — Heavy rain throughout central Illinois on Wednesday afternoon forced postponement of the night’s UMP DIRTcar Summernationals event at Spoon River Speedway. The $5,000-to-win event has been rescheduled for Monday, July 12, originally an open date on the 29-race schedule.
Next up for the series is the Herald & Review 100 on Thursday at Macon (Ill.) Speedway, a fifth-mile oval that’s been a staple on UMP’s month-long tour.
Defending and three-time series champion Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., heads to Macon with a 23-point advantage over two drivers tied for the runner-up spot in the $25,000 title chase, Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., and Jeep Van Wormer of Pinconning, Mich.
Nine series races remain on the scheduled over the next 10 days with July 15 the only remaining open date. The event rained out July 4 at Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway has been rescheduled for July 25, but it won’t count toward Summernationals points.
Monday's Spoon River makeup will be followed by a Tuesday event at nearby Peoria (Ill.) Speedway.
