Drake tops Toste, wins Canyon weekend opener
PEORIA, Ariz. (Sept. 20) — Steve Drake of San Luis Obispo, Calif., claimed a $1,200 victory Friday night at Canyon Speedway Park, topping West Coast Late Model Shootout points leader Tony Toste of Pismo Beach, Calif., in the first of two weekend series events co-sanctioned by WCS and the Southwest Dirt Racing Association.
Anthony Madrid of Phoenix, Ariz., was third with Tommy Malcolm of Corona, Calif., and Bud Grossenbacher of Tucson, Ariz., rounding out the top five finishers.
WCS and SWDRA competitors return Saturday to Canyon for the Mr. Excitement 40, a $2,000-to-win event honoring Arizona racing legend Terry Belcher Sr., winner of 10 championships and more than 250 victories in Arizona.
