What won the race: Pole-starting Ben Watkins of Rock Hill, S.C., led all 40 laps unchallenged to score a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday's $5,000 Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series stop at Lancaster Motor Speedway. Watkins collected his fourth series victory of the season and the 11th of his career.
Quotable: "It's just another day at home, another day at the office," Watkins said. "I just can't believe it, five (wins), I never would've imagined this ever. Most of y'all probably saw me growing up and playing in the dirt, watching my Dad race. Lucky enough, some guys took a chance on me and you know, here we are."
Key notes: Watkins earned his fifth straight Super Late Model victory at Lancaster, a streak that started on March 19, 2022; all five triumphs have come on touring series with three Carolina Clash wins and two with the Ultimate Southeast Series. … Overcoming a lap-seven spin that necessitated a seven-minute red flag for cleanup, third-starting Jeff Smith marched back through the field and took the runner-up spot on lap 31, finishing 9.757 seconds behind Watkins. ... Third-running Gray Parton tangled with Smith on lap seven and hit the wall hard before collecting David Yandle and Kevin Godwin, ending all of their nights. ... Dennis Franklin improved two positions and finished third, the last driver on the lead lap. Brandon O'Neil gained five spots and finished fourth. ... Saturday's 24-minute feature had five cars running at the finish. ... Carolina Clash competitors return to Lancaster on Nov. 18 for a $10,000-to-win event co-sanctioned with the Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series.
On the move: Landon Zakalowski of Dallas, Texas, started 11th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Watkins drives a Longhorn Chassis powered by a Clements Racing Engine with sponsorship from WP Racing Shocks, Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas, Sandwood Company, Craig Industries, John Page Racing, Langleys Collision Center, Bilstein Shocks, VP Racing Fuels, Allstar Performance and Collins Signs.
