Chris Madden waves to the Raceway 7 crowd in victory lane.
What won the race: Second-starting Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., grabbed the lead on the opening lap and never looked back, cruising in Thursday's 40-lap World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series debut at Raceway 7. Madden captured a $10,000 victory and his 37th career series triumph. It's his first win of the season and first on the tour since August 2023.
Quotable: “I caught lapped traffic a little bit too fast right there at the end,” Madden said. “I didn’t want to run into lapped traffic again cause it had got pretty one-lane and kinda dusty around the top, so I wasn’t gonna be able to step out (to make a pass). I like these places up here too, everybody says it’s real dirty and crumby and stuff .. they think that we don’t run good in it, but we run real good at a lot of the tracks up here, Portsmouth and whatnot.”
Key notes: Fourth-starting Kyle Bronson kept pace with Madden for much of the way, pressuring him at times before finishing 0.916 of a second back. ... Pole-starting Cade Dillard held third for the entire distance. ... Bobby Pierce improved six positions in completing the top 10. ... Brandon Sheppard battled Ryan Gustin for 10th before slowing with a flat right-rear and drawing the race's only caution on lap 25. Sheppard finished 17th while Gustin pulled in during the same yellow and retired with apparent overheating issues. ... Thursday's feature lasted 18 minutes, with 20 competitors completing the distance. ... Notable drivers failing to qualify for the main event: Max Blair, Gregg Satterlee, Boom Briggs, Dylan Yoder, Ryan Missler and Doug Drown. ... Drown smashed the frontstretch wall in the third heat race, ending his night.
On the move: Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., started 17th and finished eighth.
