What won the race: Craig Parker of Waddell, Ariz., rolled to the $1,000 victory in Saturday’s Southwest Dirt Racing Association Bobbie Engle’s Summer Slam at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway. Finishing ahead of Kent Rosevear and John Morris Jr., Parker recorded his 11th career series win.
Key notes: The Arizona-based series returned to action for the first time since March 7 as the pandemic shut the tour down. ... Parker started from the pole position and led all 25 laps, earning his first victory of the year by a few lengths over John Cornell of Phoenix, Ariz. ... Cornell was involved in the first caution flag of the evening on lap six, when Paul Rios spun at the entrance of turn three, while being lapped. ... Cornell retained his runner-up position, despite enduring significant damage, while Brian Schultz, of Casa Grande, Ariz., was forced to pit from third place with a flat right rear tire. ... Schultz brought out the second and final caution flag on lap 10, when he slowed to a stop in turn four, but he was able to continue and rebounded to finish seventh. ... Bud Grossenbacher of Tucson, Ariz., was running third on the ensuing restart, but also encountered a flat right rear tire which ended his night and relegated him to finish 13th. ... Steve Stultz of Peoria, Ariz., blew an engine on lap 19 and coasted off the track, finishing 12th. ... Five drivers completed 25 laps in the 15-minute race. ... The series is scheduled to return to FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway for its next race on Oct. 10.
On the move: Bruce Duckett of Mesa, Ariz., started ninth and finished third.
