Zack Dohm takes the checkers for his $10,000 4B4EVER 40 victory.
What won the race: Winning a tight three-car battle, Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., led all the way in Sunday’s 4B4EVER 40 at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex for a $10,000 victory. Dohm fought off challenges from runner-up Devin Moran — including multiple lead-swapping slide jobs over the final three laps — and earlier third-place finisher Josh Rice in the unsanctioned special event paying tribute to late Kentucky racer Jackie Boggs.
Quotable: "I could hear (Moran), so I felt like I was holding the show up a little bit. But I knew the top was where you had to be — I don't like the top — but I knew who was behind me and where I needed to go. I just figured I'd stay up there and pray to God (race honoree) Jackie (Boggs) would see me through it," Dohm said. "He was the best I've ever seen here. I mean, he was one of the best I've ever seen (anywhere), but he was badass. And he taught us more than anybody else ever did ... I'm proud to win it."
Key notes: Zack Dohm grabbed his first victory of the season. ... Devin Moran unofficially took the lead several times but Dohm edged back ahead at the start-finish line. ... Jacob Hawkins ran in the top five early but slowed for an early yellow flag. ... In prelims, Todd Brennan's car suffered damage in a frontstretch heat accident, ending his event early. ... Among other drivers failing to make the feature lineup was Ryan Markham of Ashland, Ohio, who entered the event following Friday and Saturday home-state weekly victories at Attica Raceway Park and Orrville's Wayne County Speedway. ... Other drivers failing to qualify: Nicky Pennington, Larry Martin Jr., Mike Meyer and Kent Keyser. ... The second annual event paid tribute to late Grayson, Ky., driver Jackie Boggs, who died two years earlier.
On the move: Rod Conley of Wheelersburg, Ohio, started 17th and finished 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Dohm’s Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Dohm Cycles, Tim Short Auto Group, Way Floor Covering, Octane Race Products, Dohm Farm, Daggett Rentals and Mountain Top RV Park.
